Can't argue with any of these, and appreciate the introduction to Bola Sete. But I will invite you to attend my 30-hour course on Jerry Garcia Appreciation (you knew that was coming). If you can't attend in person, listen to every solo he played on Deal in 1977. Not a single repeated idea. Pure inventive joy.
my man! Jerry was a close friend of a lot of people on my list. He was a huge influence on the development of rock guitar and had a signature tone and touch that is unmatched. As always, my ears are wide open...Thx for stopping by !
Picking just 25 is a tough ask! Nice to see some love for Johnny “Guitar” Watson. Grew up on Southern Rock, so always a fan of dueling guitars, solos and extended jams. Though I appreciate Mark Knopfler and Martin Barre.
ABB over LF by one. Had to be a tough choice. Both are stellar. Thank you for breathing life back into the LF sound and your years with 'the keeper of the mojo', Gregg Allman.
Thx Jeff! This list was not in any order, at least not intentionally! It's been an honor to be a member of both families , an honor that is truly beyond words.
I really enjoy reading these posts, Scott! I can also relate to what you wrote about other instruments influencing your phrasing, etc. As a drummer primarily, I definitely find influences in sometimes the guitar parts, or what the pianist may be playing and it gives me ideas on how I can best paint the soundscape with the rhythm.
very cool and thank you for this note, a band is only as good as its drummer, a truly noble path to man the kit. We all need to have our ears wide open, but you will always set the pace, a mighty task!
An interesting compilation! I like the inclusion of different genres and of other instruments that have influenced your playing. But no Clapton and no BB King? A little surprising. And what about anything recent? Who is changing you or moving you forward now from any genre? I would have some of the same as you, but I would definitely include both Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan, Clapton, BB King, Robben Ford, Al Di Meola, Larry Carlton. This past year, venturing outside of guitar, Hillary Hahn’s recording of Isaye’s sonatas wowed me because of the diversity of sounds she can get from 4 strings in a recording of 6 sonatas written to be performed by one musician, one instrument, stand alone, and yet creative and diverse enough that it never gets boring. It opened my eyes to the idea of what can be done with a guitar that depends on one player’s hands and pick, not a pedal or amp controls.
very cool! its only 25 slots. It was painful to not include BB, but his records dont stack up as a whole to me. I love so many of his individual; tracks. There is no doubt if it was top 25 songs he would be on there. Freddie was my number one King personally. You need all 3! alas, maybe I should have done top 30? As for Jimmie and SRV. My fav album of any of theirs is In Step. I have the same feeling about Jimmie, so influential, but never had one whole LP that moved me the way these have. Will dig into Hillary Hahn! Thank you for that. This is why I did the list!!! Cheers
LOVE Jimmie V and the T Birds. Many incredible individual tracks, but the full albums dont make it in my top 25. Thanks for the reminder though, hes truly a master!

No Jimmie Vaughn? With T-Birds or solo!
